So I’ve been a very lazy blogger lately, or maybe just a very distracted mom, and I have started several posts that I haven’t yet finished. But I wanted to do a quick post this evening on the topic of churros. Who doesn’t like churros? What could be bad about sweet dough, fried and coated in sugar?
I recently discovered that Costco, of all places, makes a mean churro. Hot, crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Yesterday, I brought one (okay two) home and decided I wanted to try it as the Spanish do, with a rich chocolate sauce. Let me be clear – churros don’t technically “need” chocolate sauce. But just this once I wanted to experience the full effect, and not to mention my son is crazy for dipping. It’s amazing the things I can get him to eat if I offer an appealing dipping sauce alongside. Not that he needed any convincing in this case… but he had fun.
So get yourself a churro and then either buy your favorite chocolate fudge sauce or make one from a few squares of melted dark chocolate, a pat of butter, a couple tablespoons of milk or cream, a dash of cinnamon, and brown sugar to taste. I think for the adults, a shot of espresso mixed in would also be divine.
Then go to town!
While you’re enjoying these, imagine you are on the terrasse of a street cafe in Spain, watching the evening lights rise in the city. I guarantee you will be transported.
Great post! I love churros. You can also buy (or make for the super adventurous) churros filled with chocolate or vanilla cream. I like the idea of dipping it in chocolate!! Another suggestion for a dipping variety could be cajeta. Keep up the great work!!
Thanks, Lorena! Cajeta would be fantastic with it! I’ll have to devote a whole post to that stuff at some point.
