I just wanted to take a moment today to share with you a tip for making quick baby food. So here’s the tip: Trader Joe’s carries 3 different frozen purées that come in bags of small individual discs. They have mashed potatoes, mashed cauliflower and mashed sweet potato, although this one I believe is seasonal. This is great for parents of babies because they can be thawed one or a few at a time to make a dish for baby. Frozen food is overall better than jarred or canned in my opinion, but it’s often hard to find purées. So these were a great find.
As far as how to use them, you can serve them as is or mix with other ingredients. I often keep homemade stock that I’ve frozen into ice cube trays (I love the new ones with silicone bottoms that you can push in to remove the cubes) to mix with the purées and this makes a great base for a baby purée.
So check these out!
As always, I’ll leave you with a recipe.
Sweet Potato Peanut Soup
- 3 discs of sweet potato, thawed
- 1 tsp peanut butter or peanut butter powder (great for adding to baby purées)
- 2 or 3 tablespoons of chicken stock, formula, or water
Mix in a bowl and serve.
